Arthur Gardiner was born and lived in Belfast, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.
Rifleman Gardiner successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Rfn Gardiner was killed in action on 2 April 1945, and was given a field burial at Lengerich, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 28 April 1947.
