Arthur Gregory Yates was the son of Charles and Clara Yates, of Westbourne, Hampshire. He enlisted in the Grenadier Guards, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Yates successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also Glider Pilot training and was posted to E Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Yates was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 22 and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
