Staff Sergeant Arthur C Lawrence

Arthur Cyril Lawrence was the son of Philip George and Aileen Mary, of Sussex. He enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Lawrence successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Lawrence was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 32, and was given a field burial in a mass grave 150 yards south of Hotel Tafelberg, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
