Sergeant Alistair W Allen

Alistair William Allen was the son of William Henry and Edith May Allen, of Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand.

He was born in 1922 and was killed in an air accident on 15 September 1942, age 20.

He was a Sergeant Pilot, Royal New Zealand Air Force.

On 15 September 1942 he took off from RAF Kidlington at 01:55 on a single circuit night exercise. The Tug was a bi-plane Hector 1 piloted by Sgt Alistair William Allen, RNZAF. The glider was a Hotspur with P.O. Weller-Poley as instructor pilot and Corporal Hugh W C Corke, Glider pilot Regiment, the student.

They took off into low cloud which rapidly deteriorated and they crashed into the ground near Wytham, 4 miles SSW of RAF Kidlington and sadly all three men were killed.
