Corporal Alfred Stannard

Alfred Stannard was the son of Fred and Emma Stannard; husband of Doris (Smith) Stannard, of Crookham, Hampshire. Married September 1930, Colchester, Essex. He volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Stannard successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 63 (Airborne) Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (D day landings).

Cpl Stannard was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 36, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
