Gunner Alfred Sherratt

Alfred Sherratt was the son of Charles and Lilian Sherratt; husband of Joan Beryl Sherratt, of Radford, Coventry, he enlisted in the North Staffordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Gunner Sherratt successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway and also glider training and was posted to 3 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Gnr Sherratt was killed in action on 7 June 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial at Ecarde and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 10 August 1944.
