Lance Corporal Alfred P Kelly

Alfred Patrick Kelly was the son of Michael and Florence Beatrice Kelly, of New Moston, Manchester, he enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Kelly successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 88 from 18 to 30 October 1943. His course report stated “Worked hard, performed quite well, slightly nervous”. He was posted to HQ Company, 8th Bn. The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Kelly was killed in action on 16 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial near Bavent and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 21 August 1945.
