Alfred was a member of the Royal Army Service Corp Service No.211155. His rank at Ramat David is shown as Driver which is RASC equivalent of private.

Alfred was attached to Headquarters of 4th Para Brgd.  He completed his Para training (course 33) at Ramat David in Palestine in April 1943.

He served at Arnhem and was driver for Brigadier John “Shan” Hackett.  Alfred was wounded at Arnhem but managed to escape across the Rhine when remnants of 1st Airborne Div. were withdrawn on Operation Berlin

He died on his birthday 26 May 1996 aged 76
