Private Alexander Munro

Alexander Munro was the son of Archibald and Janet Munro, of Wishaw, Lanarkshire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Munro successfully completed his parachute training at RAF, Ringway on course number 102 from 7 to 18 February 1944. His course report stated ‘Hard worker, confident, good performer’. He was posted to 5 Platoon, A Company, 156 Battalion the Parachute Regiment and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Munro was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 22, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
