Private Alexander McKay

Alexander McKay was the son of Addison and Isabella McKay, of Edinburgh. He enlisted in the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private McKay successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to B Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte McKay was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 23. His remains were found in De Sijsselt at Ede, on 14 February 1946 and he was buried in Ede General Cemetery.
