Lance Corporal Albert Pepperell

Albert Pepperell was the husband of Rhoda Pepperell, of Middlesex. He enlisted into the Gordon Highlanders and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Pepperell successfully completed his glider training and was posted to A Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Cpl Pepperell was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 26, his remains were taken by Civilians from the woods in the Bilderberg area, southwest of the sports ground, to the local war cemetery, Oosterbeek, and he was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 10 April 1946.
