Private Albert D Horwood

29 Nov 1922 - 24 Mar 1945

Albert Dennis Horwood was the son of Royal J and Kathleen (Ashby) Horwood, of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire; husband of Irene Ethel Elsie (Jenkins) Horwood. He enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Albert and Irene married in Poplar, London on 1 July 1944 and had a son, Dennis A M Horwood in 1945.

Private Horwood successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Horwood was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 16 April 1947.
