Rifleman Albert C J Sawyer

Albert Charles James Sawyer was the son of Albert Edward and Rebecca Sawyer, of Enfield Highway, Middlesex, he enlisted in The Rifle Brigade, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Rifleman Sawyer successfully completed glider and also parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to Defence Platoon, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).

Rfn Sawyer was killed in action on 12 June 1944, age 22, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
