Albert Allen was the son of Harry and Marie Allen; husband of Georgina Allen, of York, he enlisted in The West Yorkshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Allen successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Sgt Allen was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 28, and was given a field burial in Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
