Lieutenant Alastair D Clarkson

Alastair Duncan Clarkson was the son of Hugh Clarkson, M.B.E., M.A., and Margaret Clarkson, of Edinburgh. His brother, P/O Bertrand Clarkson was killed on 23 August 1940, aged 19. Alastair was granted a commission in the Parachute Regiment.

Lieutenant Clarkson successfully completed his parachute training on course number 78 at RAF Ringway, from 14 to 24 August 1943. He was posted Liason Officer to, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Lt Clarkson was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial in a meadow south of Polderweg. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 8 August 1945.
