Private Alan Blake

14 May 1945

Private Alan Blake, son of Alfred and Agnes Blake, of Shildon, Co Durham, served with 13th (South Lancs) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Rhine Crossing, during Op Varsity.

Private Blake died of wounds on 14 May 1945, aged 20 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.

Many of the other soldiers commemorated here died in the 1st Airborne fighting around Arnhem the previous Autumn.
