Lieutenant Ernest Roebuck

Ernest Roebuck was the son of Edwin and Mary Roebuck, of Ingbirchworth, Yorkshire. He was commissioned in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Roebuck successfully completed his glider training and was posted to D Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Lt Roebuck was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial near the St Elisabeth Hospital, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 25 August 1945.
