Private Eric M Thompson

Eric M Thompson was born in Guisborough and lived in Yorkshire. He enlisted into The Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Thompson successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Thompson was killed in action on 25 Septemberr 1944, aged 24. He was buried by members of the Dutch Red Cross somewhere in Oosterbeek on 2 October 1944. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
