Description
Lieutenant Reginald Clark, Quartermaster of 152 Battalion:
"As to the 'Sunday Statesman pictures. It was during my service Indian Airborne Forces Training Unit that Capt Harry Sheldon a war artist came from GHQ. Living conditions at the IAFTU were not the best and he shared my quarters. It was a bit of fun, and we became 'mates'. Just before he left he painted my portrait in watercolours similar to those depicted in the newspaper. You will appreciate that this effort was unofficial with the result it was not taken by Harry Sheldon back to G.H.Q. - I wonder what happened to the originals of those shown in the newspaper?"
Source: This original painting is held in the Airborne Assault Archives. It was painted by Herbert Harry Sheldon a famous Indian Army War artist, who studied under LS Lowry at Salford Technical School.
