Aldershot Military Cemetery

Aldershot Military Cemetery, which is located in Hampshire, is a permanent cemetery belonging to the UK’s Ministry of Defence.

The cemetery is the resting place for some 17,000 personnel, dating back to the 1850s, including:
-       Serving and former serving military personnel of the British Armed Forces or         Commonwealth Forces.
-       Dependants of military personnel, such as spouses and children.
-       Civilians who have worked with the military.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintains over 800 graves from the two World Wars in the cemetery.

There are a number of airborne soldiers whose final resting place is at the Aldershot cemetery including:
-      Lt Col Dickie Lonsdale DSO & Bar, MC, a veteran of the Battle of Arnhem.
-      Sgt Ian McKay VC, 3 PARA, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria.
       Cross after his actions at the Battle of Mount Longdon in June 1982 during
       the Falklands War.

-      17 other members of 5 Airborne Brigade who died during the Falklands War.
-      Six Paratroopers who died in the Little Baldon Air Disaster in 1965.
-      Pte PJ Cowton killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008.
