Sergeant Thomas Maguire

Sergeant Thomas Maguire was the husband of Eva Maguire and came from Greenock in Scotland.

He was pre war regular soldier with the Seaforth Highlanders and later volunteered for airborne forces shortly after the formation of 1st Parachute Brigade in September 1941 along with a fellow Sgt, David Grieve.

He qualified as a military parachutist on the first course run for brigade personnel at RAF Ringway in November 1941 and returned there for an advanced parachute training course with arms containers In January 1942.

Although he served in C Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion (2nd Para Bn), he did not take part in the Bruneval Raid in February 1942.

He deployed with  C Coy,2nd Para Bn, later that year to North African for Operation Torch and was killed by German shell fire on 2nd Para Bn's positions on 5 February 1943.

Sgt Grieve is now buried at Massicault War Cemetery, Tunisia.
