Roll Call Lance Corporal Stanley G T Eckert – June 6th 1944

Lance Corporal Stanley George Thomas Eckert, son of Albert James and Mary Eckert, served with 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion after completing Parachute Jump Course 75 at Ringway in early August 1943, with the comments: 'Tried hard and attained a satisfactory standard'. He took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy, during Op Overlord.

Lance Corporal Eckert died on D-Day 6 June 1944, aged 19 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy. His older brother Corporal Cyril Eckert was also killed in late August 1944 during the Normandy campaign, and now lies close by at Ranville.
