Private Sidney L Stamp

Sidney Leonard Stamp, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Stamp, of Shepperton Green, Middlesex, enlisted into the East Surrey Regiment, before volunteering for airborne forces.

Private Stamp became a military parachutist after attending course 63 at RAF Ringway, which ran from 4 to 17 May 1943. His instructors’ comments state, “Pte Stamp: A confident jumper who has done very well.’

He was then posted to D Company, The 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion and served as line infantry in Italy and jumped into Southern France on Operation Dragoon in August 1944.

Pte Stamp went on Operation Manna in Greece.

He ‘Died of Wounds’ on 7 December 1944 and is now buried in Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece.
