Roland George Longshaw was the son of George Henry William and Beatrice Victoria (Stroud) Longshaw; husband of Daisy Florence (Butt) Longshaw, of Oxford. Married October 1940 in Oxford. He enlisted in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Longshaw successfully completed glider training and was posted to the 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Sgt Longshaw was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 28 and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 24 March 1947.
