Robert E Winnal

Robert Ernest Winnal was the son of William and Clarence Winnal, of Compton, Wolverhampton. He enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Winnal successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Winnal was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial 50 yards south of the Church in Oosterbeek and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
