Raymond Stanley Stone was the son of John Young Stone and Emmeline Stone, of Hodson, Wiltshire.
He served in The Somerset Light Infantry (SLI) before volunteering for The Parachute Regiment in World War II and was posted to the 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion, which had formerly been the 10th Bn, SLI.
Pte Stone took part in the final mass allied parachute and glider assault of World War II, Operation Varsity, on 24 March 1945, and the subsequent advance to the Baltic.
He died of wounds sustained during this campaign, possibly at Wunstorf or Neustadt, on 15 April 1945 aged 23 years, and is now buried at Chiseldon Cemetery, Wiltshire.
