Mark 'Smudge' Smith joined the Junior Para Coy on 5 September 1978, with 35 Platoon.
'Smudge' qualified for Airborne Forces in 1979, and passed through Brize Norton with 455 Platoon, Recruit Coy between 14 September and 11 October 1979.
Pte Smith was posted to The 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (1 PARA) later in October 1979, and went on server with the Battalion for six years, including deployments to Northern Ireland and Hong Kong.
He was intially posted to 7 Platoon, C Company, and went on to serve with the Signals Platoon and later the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked (CRV(T)) Platoon during his career.
He left the services on 20 October 1985.
