Pte Sadler served with 9 Platoon, C Company , 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment after serving with the Warwickshire Regiment. Pte Sadler was Batman to Platoon Commander Lt Barry, himself injured and taken prisoner, during Op Market Garden, at Arnhem and was the only member of 9 Platoon killed. (During the battle, C Company had 7 killed, and 2 PARA 61 killed, and a total of 210 wounded. Only 17 soldiers in 2 PARA escaped). C Company had a separate task to capture the Railway Bridge near Oosterbeek, and well away both from the main Road Bridge, and the Pontoon Bridge. This Bridge was blown up by the Germans on 17th September as C Company starting moving along it from the north bank. Pte Sadler was killed at 6 pm that evening, underneath the north end of the Railway Bridge.
