Lance Bombardier Lesley J W Tye

Lesley James William Tye enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces. Lance Bombardier Tye served in the 53rd (Worcester Yeomanry) Airlanding Light Regiment Royal Artillery (RA).

He was due to marry his sweetheart on 10 June 1944 but on 4 June he sent her a telegram which simply said "cancel everything”. L/Bdr Tye’s wedding was postponed because of Operation Overlord, the 53rd Airlanding Light Regiment's first deployment on 6th June.

Returning safely form Normandy L/Bdr Tye married on 12t September 1944. He then went to on to fight in the Ardennes, later known as the ‘Battle of the Bulge’ in December 1944. There he suffered severe Frost Bite and his leg was saved by a Belgian Doctor. He was transferred to Alder Hey Emergency Hospital in Liverpool in late April 1945.
