Kempton Nicel enlisted with the Army 6 March 1941 and became a member of The RASC.
He then volunteered for the airborne forces and was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 28. This course consisted of 7 descents and ran between 23 and 28 September 1942. The course notes states that the successful pupils would be posted as "Parachute Brigade Reinforcements".
Records indicate that Kempton was posted to 1st Para Bn, and was a member of HQ, T Coy. He saw service in operations in N.Africa and Italy.
1 December 1944 he was transferred back to his original unit in The RASC.
