Spr Hughes was listed as a POW in Stalag XIIA in March 1945. He may have been a casualty of a forced march when his camp was evacuated in the face of the advancing Russians. He died on 2 April 1945, aged 22. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek memorial to the missing.
