Sergeant John Bardwell was the son of James and Henrietta Bardwell, and husband of Doris Bardwell, of Consett. He served with 2nd Parachute Battalion in Italy and was awarded a Military Medal in December 1943.
He died on 27 June 1944, aged 27 years old. He is now buried at Benfieldside Cemetery, Consett.
