Joe Baker also served as the Rear Link Detachment Sgt with 3 PARA Signals Platoon in Osnabruck (Quebec Barracks)1978 to 1980 (approx). I was the RSO at the time. On completion of his tour of duty with 3 PARA he was posted back to 216 PARA Sqn.
Joe Baker, aka "Smokey Joe" was a good mate to have in 216.
We served together in Aldershot for several years, including a 22 week RTg trade course at Catterick in 1972. I last saw Joe when visiting Monty Lines in 1978. He was a Sgt then. I was very sad to hear of his death during the Falklands War.
R.I.P. Joe, an Airborne brother, sadly missed.
