Jason Grime enlisted in Manchester on 22 September 1986 as a 16 year old, and a month later joined 7 Platoon, The Junior Parachute Company at Pirbright.

In March 1987, Pte Grime went to Depot The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces, at Aldershot as a member of 529 Platoon but after injury passed out with 533 Platoon in March 1988. He served with 9 Platoon, C Company, 1 PARA until early 1990 when he transferred to Patrols Platoon, Command Company, 1 PARA.

He joined The Red Devils Free Fall Parachute Display Team in January 1991.

L/Cpl Grime was posted to an Army Pilots Course in November 1999 and promoted to Corporal. He qualified as an army pilot on Course 32 at Middle Wallop School of Army Aviation in June 2001.

After qualifying Cpl Grimes served with 657 Sqn Army Air Corps, as a Parachute Regiment Pilot flying Lynx Helicopters, before transferring to the Army Air Corps in 2002.

He retired from military service in May 2010, having reached the rank of Warrant Officer Class II.
