Sergeant James Gibbons

James Michael Gibbons was the son of James and Sarah Gibbons; husband of Dorothy Gibbons, of Manchester, he enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’ Own) and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Gibbons successfully completed parachute training at RAF Chakrabati, India, on course number 17 and was posted to C Company, 10 Platoon, 156th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Gibbons died of wounds on 20 September 1944, aged 25, and was buried in Renkum Roman Catholic Cemetery.
