Private Hugh E Fletcher

Hugh Edward Fletcher, son of Edward and Daisy Fletcher, of West Ham, Essex, enlisted into the General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Fletcher successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course 89 from 28 October to 9 November 1943. He was posted to A Company 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Fletcher was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 19. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
