Lance Corporal Herbert E Cantwell

Herbert Edward Cantwell was the son of Harry and Florence Cantwell and the husband of Dorothy Cantwell, of Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. He enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Cantwell successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Cantwell was killed in action on 14 June 1944, aged 29, and was given a field burial in Breville, France. He was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery on 2 July 1945.
