Geoffrey R Long enlisted into the East Surrey Regiment before volunteering for airborne forces in August 1944.
Private Long attended parachute training course number 134 at RAF Ringway between 18 September and 5 October 1944. His course report stated that he was ‘cheerful, keen, confident, good stick jumper’.
He was posted to HQ Company, 7th Parachute Battalion, and saw service in the Ardennes Campaign in December 1944, and the Operation Varsity in March 1945.
Pte Long was transferred to the Reserve in November 1945.
Geoffrey Long died on 12 November 2013.
