Frederick Wardlaw was the son of John and Ellen Wardlaw, of Bedlington, Northumberland.
He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces. Corporal Wardlaw successfully completed his parachute training on course number 66 at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, and was posted to 11th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Wardlaw was killed in action on 24 September 1944, aged 25, and was given a field burial in the grounds of the Hotel Pietersberg, Oosterbeek, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
