Major Douglas C Prior

Douglas was born in 1929 and educated at Harrow where he spent many happy hours on the cricket field.

He was called up for National Service and passed out of Sandhurst in 1947 being commissioned into the Regiment in August 1948.

He served in Malaya, Egypt, Kenya and Uganda before going on to command the Guards Independent Parachute Company, and subsequently became Adjutant of the Second Battalion.

Douglas served in a number of other appointments including as an Instructor at the School of Infantry.

His last day of service was 7 January 1968, after the death of his wife Fenella, when he chose to leave the Army in order to  look after his family. He became an insurance broker in Glasgow.

He continued to follow his passion for salmon fishing and skiing late into his life.

Douglas sadly passed away in March 2023. He is survived by his daughter Lucinda and his son James, who followed him through Harrow and into the Scots Guards and who himself became a member of the TGC in 1988.

Douglas Prior became a member of the Third Guards Club in 1955.
