Private Dermot Carney, son of Patrick and Aggie Carney, of Lahardance, Co Mayo in the Irish Republic served with 3rd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch.
Private Carney died on 6 January 1943, aged 28 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
