Cyril Cutting, who was born in Mildenhall, Suffolk, was the son of Florence May Cutting and stepson of Cyril Henry Sturgeon.
He served in 286 (Airborne) Field Park Company, Royal Engineers, during World War II and took part in the Normandy campaign in June 1944.
Drivers Cutting and Aldous were killed on the same day, a few weeks into the campaign, when their company positions were hit by German shellfire.
Driver Cyril Cutting died on 20 June 1944, aged 23 years, and is now buried in Ranville Cemetery Normandy.
