Roll Call Private Christopher F Sutton {Dinky} – June 6th 1944

Christopher Frederick Sutton was born in Birmingham and volunteered for airborne forces while serving in the Army during World War II.

He transferred from The Dorset Regiment and attended preliminary training at Hardwick Hall before attendance at RAF Ringway for parachute training on course 100, which ran from 24 January to 5 February 1944. After qualifying he was posted to No 1 Airborne Forces Holding Unit and later transferred to 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion.

Pte Sutton deployed with the 7th Para Bn as part of the spearhead for the Normandy landings on the night of 5/6th June 1944 and was killed as the battalion fought off German counter attacks in Le Port and Benouville area.

Pte Sutton died on 6 June 1944, aged 21 years, and is now buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados.
