Private Charles O'Hara

Charles O’Hara enlisted into the General Service Corps in November 1942.

He was posted to the Royal Artillery and then the King's Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI) before volunteering for airborne forces in January 1944.

Private O’Hara attended Parachute Training course 102 at RAF Ringway between 7 and 18 February 1944. The course report states; 'Good performer, cool, and confident, very keen.'

He was posted to The 3rd Parachute Battalion and attached to Number 1 Company, 1st Airborne Divisional Signals and was deployed to Arnhem in September 1944.

Pte O’Hara was able to return across the river during the withdrawal on 25/26 September.

Pte O’Hara was demobbed on 3 August 1947.

Rear Row, 5th from Right. Kenneth Arthur Watkins (Wock). By November 1944 he was in 1 Sqn, 2nd SAS Regt in France. What happened to him after Ringway, between Feb-Nov 1944. Dad later served in 22 SAS Regt, (D Sqn),and finished his Army Career in 1969 as WO1(RSM) 23 SAS Regt.
