Private Alan W Evans

Alan William Evans, son of William and Mary Evans, of Marsh, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, enlisted in the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Evans successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 109 from 27 March to 7 April 1944 and was posted to 10 Platoon,C Company, 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Evans was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 20. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
