The Valletta was originally the civilian aircraft known as the Viking. This was based on the Wellington bomber and was quite a nice plane to travel in BUT the wing spar made it deadly for the four men in the stick as they had to climb over the damn wing spar that went right across the inside of the cabin at about two foot in height. The big problem arose when you were carrying a really heavy load in your weapon container. It was not unusual to be carrying well over 100lbs in your container so it was struggle to get over that spar and by the time you had reached the exit the rest of the stick had long since left the plane and you would land a long way away from the DZ
