This aircraft entered service with the USAF in 1962 and in the RAF in 1967. Designed to land on short, rough forward airstrips it has a range of 3,650 miles and can carry internally, either for parachuting or as air transported load, a variety of heavy military equipments.
For this the rear undersection of the aircraft fuselage can be lowered as a platform or loading ramp. It will also carry 62 fully equipped parachutists who jump simultaneously from double doors on either side of the fuselage. Its four turbo prop Allison engines give the aircraft a max speed of 380 mph.
