First delivered to the RAF in January 1932 as a medium bomber, this aircraft played a leading part in airborne training and operations in World War II, being employed by 38 Group RAF for towing Horsa gliders and for dropping parachute troops and supplies.
Its radius of action with a glider was 34 miles at 130 knots and for parachuting (carrying 10 parachutists who dropped through an aperture in the fuselage floor) up to 800 miles.
