  • Macedonia (Operation Bessemer)

    In August 2 PARA were deployed with 16 Air Assault Brigade to Macedonia on Op BESSEMER. After growing tensions in FYROM between the ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army (NLA) and the Macedonian Army (ARM), a NATO brokered peace agreement was signed between the two parties.

  • Malaya

    In 1954 the 22nd Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment required a replacement ‘Sabre’ (fighting) squadron for deployment during the ‘Emergency’ in Malaya. The Parachute Regiment were invited to provide the personnel. Some 80 officers and men were selected from a large number of volunteers to form the Independent Parachute squadron under command of Major EWD Coventry.
