ParaData aims to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible. To that aim we strive to conform with level AA of the W3C's "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0" and comply with all relevant priority 1 and 2 checkpoints. We are also aware of the Disability Rights Commission's "Guide to good practice in commissioning accessible websites" document.

Access keys

Access keys are keyboard short cuts to main sections of the website.

Access keys for this website are as follows:

They are supported by most browsers and are activated by holding ALT (for Windows) or CTRL (for the Macintosh) and pressing the corresponding access key.

Access keys used on this site are in line with government standards.

Images

We have tried to ensure that there is sufficient contrast between foreground and background colours. We do not convey information solely through the use of colour.

All images that are not used for presentational purposes have descriptive alternative text.  Please note that ParaData contains many images of material, particularly documents,  from the Airborne Forces Museum archive.  In order to provide more meaningful and searchable text versions of the images we have used optical character recognition (OCR) software to provide full text alternatives.  However, in cases where these documents are old, handwritten or damaged OCR does not render the text completely or particularly accurately. Where OCR has not worked at all we have removed it. If you require a corrected text version of a document please contact the Museum curator who will endeavour to assist.

Text

Users are able to increase or decrease the size of the text used on this website through their browser's inbuilt features (usually from the 'view' drop down menu).

The content has been checked to make sure it is clear, concise and easily readable.

We have provided accessible alternatives to any multimedia content.

Browser support

This website validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. It is best viewed in any of the following browsers:

Windows: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 2+ and Opera 9+.

Macintosh: Safari 2+, Firefox 2+ and Opera 9+.

Scripts

Scripting languages (such as JavaScript) have only been used to enhance HTML functionality. Browsers that do not have JavaScript switched on will simply be passed the HTML equivalent.

A site map is available to show hierarchical information about the layout of this website.

Layout

The site has been designed to fit the width of a 1024 by 768 pixel browser window. Style sheets have been used for the purposes of layout. When style sheets are switched off the content is displayed in a linear fashion.

Note: The content should be visible in all browsers, even if they do not support CSS layout.

Tables

Where data tables have been used, all table cells have been marked up with the 'scope' attribute.

Forms

Where forms have been used, all form controls have been associated with their respective labels.
